Youth Peer Health Education (YPHE) is a health promotion technique that is influential in teaching and sharing sexual health and HIV/AIDS related information, attitudes and values among youth in low-resource settings. Highlands Hope Umbrella an Organization based in Njombe Tanzania has been using this technique in primary school settings for number of years.

The Southern Highlands Participatory Organization (SHIPO) is a Tanzanian Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Njombe, Tanzania. Apart from different projects they have been implementing, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health is one of the areas they are also focusing in primary schools.
Youth Peer Health Education (YPHE) in primary schools, a program developed and pioneered by Highlands Hope Umbrella and its Canadian partner McGill University, has become a very popular approach to disseminate awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and children’s rights issues to children and adolescents.
The FCS is a Tanzanian non-profit company, designed and funded by a group of like-minded development partners, and governed by an independent Board. It enables citizens to become a strong driving force for change in improving the democratic governance of Tanzania, in fighting poverty and in achieving a better quality life for all. Recently, FCS has started working with Highlands Hope Umbrella based in Njombe Tanzania to implement Good governance project focusing Maternal and Child health service delivery improvements.
Highlands Hope Umbrella welcomes the adoption by the General Assembly of the United Nations on June 8 of a new and actionable Political Declaration on Ending AIDS including a set of specific targets to be reached by 2020 to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
Terry’s Tanzania
In January 2006, Montreal’s famed Gazette cartoonist Terry Mosher (Aislin) traveled to the Southern Highlands of the East African nation of Tanzania to visit Highlands Hope.
He captured the beauty, the heartbreak and the courageous determination of Highlands Hope activists like nurse Betty Liduke, community-organizer Jackson Mbogela, and the men, women and children who make the Makete and Njombe Districts of Tanzania a very special place.
